Human Rights Council
Hello, I am Jordan Kim, a sophomore at Seoul International School, and at GSISMUN II, I will be serving as the President of the Human Rights Council, a committee dedicated to protecting and preserving human rights around the world.
Beginning as a delegate in seventh grade, over the course of five years, I have served as both a delegate and chair at approximately ten different conferences. Model United Nations, as a powerful medium of communication with people around the world, has developed into one of my dearest passions.
At GSISMUN II, the Human Rights Council will focus on two agendas: addressing systemic racism and racial profiling among police forces and tackling the issue of discrimination against ethnic and religious minorities. Systemic racism and discrimination against ethnic and religious minorities have long persisted as serious threats to the preservation of human rights. With complacency, the divide between such discriminated groups and the rest of society has only exacerbated. Even amidst the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Human Rights Council at GSISMUN encourages delegates to divide creative solutions to these long-standing issues in society.
