My name is Haotian. Some call me Rex because they cannot pronounce my name, but you can call me whichever you feel like.
Currently an 11th grader at Singapore American School, I first began my MUN journey in grade 9. This will be my 9th conference, 3rd as a chair, and 3rd in the Security Council. I am incredibly excited to work alongside John, Sarah, as well as each and every one of you.
The two agendas of our committee have a huge significance in our world today:
Firstly, the Republic of Yemen has been enduring the largest humanitarian crisis in the world since 2011, one that displaced 4.3 million people from their homes, starving over 20 million, and killing hundreds of thousands.
Secondly, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is another alarming situation that caused thousands of people, soldiers and civilians alike, dead and missing, after repeated violations of the ceasefire signed back in 1994.
With the chaos of the world exacerbated by COVID-19, we must understand that modern problems require modern solutions. Hence, we must think on our feet with not complacency but creativity.
Delegates, your mission, should you choose to accept, is to make the world a better place, starting with the two regions entailed in our agenda. If we can help them achieve and sustain peace, we can do anything.
Your Security Council President,
Haotian Rex Yang
